Being a fishing village, seafood is the specialty of L Ametlla. Typical dishes include the arrossejat or rice steamed in fish stock, the fideauada or noodles in fish stock, and shellfish zarzuela, which is a combination of different seafood cooking in a special sauce. Special local flavorings are added to the dishes to give them a distinct and enticing taste.
Since cooking is a favorite activity in La Ametlla, a cooking competition is held every year. The best fish casserole is awarded the major prize, while other entries may include cakes and punches.
